Mutation sprays are targeted gear used to apply a named crop mutation. Their value comes from control: the player chooses an eligible crop instead of waiting for weather or a passive pet. That same control makes a wrong target expensive when the spray is limited or consumable.
Current and historical guides document several sprays, but exact names, recipes, charges, and availability change. Mutation Spray Amber is a well-documented historical example with a crafting route; verify the current game before attempting that recipe.
Verify the spray source
Check whether the item is in the Gear Shop, an event shop, a quest reward, a pack, or a crafting station. Record the source date and cost. A spray visible in an old inventory screenshot may no longer be obtainable.
For crafting, compare every live ingredient and quantity with the Crafting guide. Never consume materials from memory.
Prepare the crop
Choose a replaceable crop for the first test. Record crop name, weight or visible properties, existing mutations, and current value preview. Move other mutation sources away so the result can be attributed to the spray.
If the crop already has a valuable state, read Mutation Stacking first. Do not assume the new state will coexist.
Apply safely
Equip the spray, read the target prompt, and hover or select the intended crop. Confirm its name before the final action. After use, inspect both the crop and inventory. Record whether the item lost a charge, disappeared, or remained.
Do not spam the action when no animation appears. The crop may be ineligible, the state may already exist, or the tool may require a different target.
Compare with pet and weather routes
A spray is direct but may be scarce. A pet can repeat but has cooldown and targeting rules. Weather may be free but timing and eligibility are less controlled. Choose the cheapest route that can reliably reach the specimen.
Use Mutation Sources to compare the routes before spending a rare spray on a mutation obtainable through a pet you already own.
Store and label limited sprays
Keep a written inventory of spray name, source event or recipe, remaining count, intended mutation, and the crop reserved for it. Separate visually similar items and never rely on position alone after an update reorganizes inventory. If the game provides favorite or lock controls, use them until the test is ready.
Before an event ends, verify whether unused sprays remain usable, disappear, or lose their source. Do not consume them solely to avoid uncertainty. A preserved item with a dated source note can be tested later; a rushed application cannot be reversed.
Keep the source note beside the item name so a returning spray is not confused with a newer variant.
Spray mistakes
Do not use an event spray on an unrelated crop, apply several sprays without inspecting between them, copy an old recipe, or assume a mutation multiplier from the item name. Never give the crop or spray to a stranger for a “service.”
If the result differs from the guide, save the live evidence and stop. A hotfix or source mismatch is more likely than a need to consume another item immediately.
Mutation spray FAQ
Are mutation sprays one-use?
Consumption and charge behavior depend on the current item. Inspect the live description and inventory after one controlled use.
Where do sprays come from?
Community history includes shop, crafting, event, and reward routes. Verify the exact source for the named spray.
Can a spray overwrite a mutation?
Compatibility is update-sensitive. Record existing states and read any preview or warning before applying it.
Is Amber spray still craftable?
It was historically documented through a Prehistoric-era crafting route. Current recipe and availability are not asserted without a live check.
