Mutations

Grow a Garden Mutation Sources

Find a Grow a Garden crop mutation through weather, pets, gear, crafting, or events and separate current routes from historical sources.

The fastest way to find a mutation is to search by source class, not by multiplier. Weather requires timing and eligible crops. Pets require the right active ability and target. Gear requires an item, charge, or recipe. Events require a live activity. A huge-value state from a closed event is not a practical route.

This guide maps the player action for each class while leaving exact chances and schedules to the current game.

Weather and world conditions

When a condition begins, read its live name, announcement, and any event panel. Leave eligible crops unharvested and observe a small test patch. Community guides document weather-linked states such as Wet and Frozen, while special or admin conditions expand the historical list.

Do not assume a community calendar guarantees the next weather. Record UTC time and server context if testing a recurrence.

Pet sources

Read the owned pet’s complete ability. Community references associate Dragonfly with Gold, Sea Turtle with Wet, Scarlet Macaw with Verdant, and many later pets with other crop effects. Exact targeting, cooldown, chance, and present obtainability vary.

Equip one mutation-giver, provide eligible crops, and wait through a complete trigger. Copying or cooldown pets should be added only after the baseline works.

Gear and sprays

Targeted gear can make a source more controllable. Verify item name, target type, charges, consumption, and whether the live prompt previews the mutation. Use a replaceable crop for the first attempt.

Mutation Spray Amber is a documented historical example involving crafting, while other sprays may use shops or events. The Sprays guide handles safe application and Crafting handles recipes.

Events and special systems

Events can add weather, merchants, quests, machines, or reward items that create mutations. Label the exact event and date. A mutation can remain on old produce after the source closes, so inventory evidence is not current availability evidence.

For a current activity, follow Current Event and verify the live requested crops, points, currencies, and source rules before reorganizing the garden.

Choose the cheapest reliable route

Compare control, cost, repeatability, and risk. Weather may be free but uncertain. A pet can repeat but occupies an active slot. A spray can target precisely but may be consumed. An event source can be efficient but temporary.

Use the route you can verify and repeat. Do not spend a limited item merely because a calculator ranks the mutation highly.

Combine source classes carefully

Weather can make a short window more valuable, but adding pets and sprays at the same time makes attribution difficult. Establish each source alone, then combine only when the desired states are confirmed compatible. Reserve one control crop outside the pet target area or gear zone. If a new mutation appears, the control helps show whether weather rather than the active setup caused it.

Source status labels

Use current only when visible now, rotating when the system is active but the line is absent, event-limited when the event is live, historical when only past evidence remains, and needs in-game testing when a current guide claim lacks direct confirmation.

This status makes a mutation index actionable. A name and multiplier without source status cannot tell a player what to do.

Mutation source FAQ

What is the easiest mutation source?

The easiest is the live source you can control with crops you own. That may be current weather, an equipped pet, or a targeted gear item.

Can one mutation have several sources?

Yes, community history documents states with multiple routes. Verify which routes remain active.

Are admin weather mutations normally obtainable?

Do not assume so. Separate special/admin conditions from ordinary recurring weather and current events.

Why does my pet not mutate a crop?

Check active slot, eligible target, cooldown, chance, current ability wording, and whether another effect already occupies an incompatible state.
